THE SACRED TREE

NOMAD ARTWORK

Arbol Bodhi, Templo Mahabodhi. Bodhgaya, India

Under the Bodhi tree thousands of monks meditate every day. Their presence evokes that of the Sakyamuni Buddha, who in this same place attained enlightenment 2500 years ago.

The Sacred Tree is one of a series of works conceived in sites venerated since ancestral times. Nomadic pieces, made from a photographs which are deployed to take he energy from the place where they were taken to daily situations. Works which seek to translate a luminescence, inhabit a space and give shelter to those who need it.

The Sacred Tree is a piece created from actual photographs of the Bodhi tree, under which Buddha was enlightened and which stands in the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya. This piece is printed on a sheet of bamboo paper, 80cm square, folded and accompanied by the Heart Sutra uttered by Buddha at Vulture's Peak on the second turning of the Wheel of Dharma.
